The Curly Wash Day Routine

Caring for curly hair can be both exciting and challenging, especially for those new to embracing their natural curls. Unlike straight hair, curly hair has unique needs due to its structure, making it more prone to dryness, frizz, and tangles. Understanding how to properly care for your tresses involves using products specifically designed for curly hair and the right techniques to enhance its natural beauty and healthy look.

Whether you're transitioning from years of heat styling or simply looking to embrace your natural curls, the curly discovery kit offers everything needed for a simple wash day routine. The carefully selected products are part of the Moisture Recipe line, enriched with nourishing ingredients like babassu oil, avocado oil, and chamomilla flower to help keep your curls nourished, hydrated, and healthy looking.

This wash-day kit provides the flexibility to experience two styling levels, catering to soft-hold and stronghold preferences. It provides definition and frizz control to achieve curls that pop every wash day.

Let's take a look at what's in the box!

How often you wash your hair depends on personal preference, which can be influenced by lifestyle, environmental factors, product usage, and hair type. Regardless of frequency, follow the guide below for a successful, curly wash day.

Step 1: Cleanse

Start by shampooing with the Essential Moisture Cleanser. This sulfate-free regular cleanser helps remove dirt and buildup without stripping your hair of its natural moisture.

Pro Tip: Work the shampoo into your palms before applying it to the root area, as this will help with even distribution. Shampoo twice for a thorough cleanse.

Step 2: Condition

Follow with the Essential Moisture Conditioner, a regular rinse-out conditioner. Apply it to your hair in sections and detangle using a tool suitable for curly hair. Let the conditioner sit for 1-2 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Conditioning is an essential step in your routine, as it helps smooth the cuticles and nourish your strands after shampooing.

Pro Tip: Upon application, concentrate on the lengths and ends as the conditioner naturally works its way closer to the roots during the detangling process.

Step 3: Moisturize

A leave-in conditioner is essential to moisturize and prime your curls before applying your styler, it will help your curls stay moisturized for longer. The Hold Me Softly Style Balm works as a leave-in conditioner and curl cream, providing definition and a level 1 soft hold. Our stylers feature a hold bar on the front of the bottle, indicating the hold level from 1 (soft hold) to 10 (stronghold).

Apply in sections using the raking method for even distribution. For a soft hold, follow with your preferred styling technique to enhance your curls. If more hold is required move onto step four.

Pro Tip: Start with a small amount of product (about a dime-sized amount) and add more as needed. Too much product can weigh curls down and lead to product build-up.

Step 4: Style

For those who prefer more hold and lasting definition, section your hair and apply the Curl Defining Styling Soufflé using the raking method. Then, follow with your preferred styling technique to enhance your curls. This styler combines the moisture of a cream with the hold of a gel, offering exceptional shine, definition, and lasting hold. The hold bar displays level 8, which falls into the stronghold category. The soufflé dries with a cast to set your curls in place. Once your hair is 100% dry, scrunch the crunch to reveal soft, bouncy curls.

Pro Tip: Keep a water mist on hand to rehydrate sections that start to dry, ensuring even distribution of the styler for consistent results.

Finishing Touches

After applying the products, follow the last few steps to finish your styling routine.

  • Check your curls for any wet frizz. If needed, rehydrate and add more product to define your locks.
  • Use a microfiber towel to remove excess water; this will speed up the drying time.
  • Air dry or diffuse.

Top Tip: Understanding the outcome of the various diffusing techniques will help you achieve your preferred finished look.

Keep In Mind

If you plan to use a diffuser to dry your curls, mist your strands with our Miracle Shield after applying the Hold Me Softly Style Balm. This ultimate protection spray helps to protect against the harshest aggressors such as;

  • Thermal heat
  • UV rays
  • Chlorine
  • Sea salt
