Curl Gels

Different Types of Hair Gels

Hair gels are the styling products you need to create your perfect looks. Use them in combination with your favorite curly hair products to achieve the tresses of your dreams. At Curlsmith, we have a range of the best hair gels for curly hair for your desired style.

·     Gels - These tend to have a thicker consistency and provide a range of holds. Our In-Style Shower Fixer is our extreme strong hold hair gel that offers protection from humidity, and added shine, without leaving you with crispy curls.

·     Jelly - This formula of hair gels have a silky consistency, designed for those who wish to achieve a more lightweight finish to their look. Our Shape Up Aqua Gel has a light hold with flexible definition, whilst our Hydro Flexi Jelly and Shine Jelly offer a medium hold.

·     Soufflé - Our Curl Defining Style Soufflé has a silky custard consistency, providing a moisturising product and a hair gel in one. This buildable product creates a strong cast depending on how much you use.

·     Coloured Gels - Our temporary hair colour range offers a gel and colour in one. Experiment with vibrant looks while achieving a defined curl and transfer-resistant colour which washes out when you cleanse with a shampoo or co-wash.

Different Hair Gel Holds

Curly hair gels have different levels of hold depending on the style you want to achieve. Create long-lasting, weather-resistant styles, or curate a soft, fluffy look for a more low-key event. At Curlsmith, our hair gels are available in a range of hold levels from 1 -10.

Soft hold achieves a bouncier curl and lightweight definition, whilst strong hold keeps your style in place for longer. All of our hair gels create a temporary cast, but you can scrunch out the gel cast using hair oils to soften the look and add shine.

How to Use Gels to Style Curly Hair

Use hair gels to provide frizz control and the best glossy hair products to achieve shiny hair. If you’re considering applying gels to wet or dry hair, we recommend applying to wet hair to avoid flaking or stickiness. Here’s how to apply hair gels to finish your look:

1.   Apply to soaking wet hair after priming your hair with a leave-in conditioner.

2.   Work the hair gel through each section of your tresses using the raking method to evenly distribute the product.

3.   Follow with the praying hands method to smooth the gel throughout your locks.

4.   Once you’ve created your style, air dry or diffuse your curly hair.
